Founded by Insomniac Events, one of the largest electronic dance music event organizers in the world, the festival features a lineup of top-tier EDM DJs and producers. The first Skyline Festival was held in 2014, with a focus on indie rock and alternative music. However, in 2015, Insomniac acquired the festival, pivoting it towards EDM music. The festival was held at the historic Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, New York, which has played host to many legendary music acts since the 1960s, including The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

The first EDM-focused Skyline Festival was headlined by Grammy-winning producer and DJ, Tiësto, along with other notable EDM acts like Kaskade, Flosstradamus, and DJ Snake. Since then, the festival has consistently featured an impressive lineup of EDM artists, including top-tier acts like Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren, and Eric Prydz.

The festival has continued to grow in popularity, drawing in thousands of fans from all over the world. In 2019, Insomniac moved the festival to a new venue, the Brooklyn Mirage, which is known for its impressive outdoor setting and stunning views of the city skyline. The move to Brooklyn also allowed for an increase in capacity, with more fans able to attend the festival than ever before.

Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Insomniac was able to continue the tradition of Skyline Festival in 2020, with a virtual event featuring a lineup of top-tier DJs and producers. However, in 2021, the festival returned to the Brooklyn Mirage in-person, with a lineup that included artists like Chris Lake, Lane 8, and Nora En Pure.

Insomniac’s Skyline Festival has come a long way since its indie rock origins in 2014. Today, it is a beloved EDM event that draws in fans from all over the world, showcasing some of the biggest and most influential names in the genre. As the festival continues to grow and evolve, fans eagerly anticipate what the future holds for this storied event.
