We got an exclusive interview with rising talent from Amsterdam, Netherlands – Lavern. He has used Instagram Reels and TikTok to get his music to the masses and absolutely detonate onto the scene. His first release “Move Me” went viral on Instagram reels and now has over 15,000,000 streams to show for it. His next viral sensation “Hold Me” released March 31st 2023 and already has over 3,000,000 streams. Check out this exclusive interview we got with the young star.

Inspiration to get into EDM?
Electric State
I first encountered electronic dance music as a child in 2013. Armin van Buuren then released his album called "Intense" with songs like "Beautiful life" and "This is what it feels like." There was also the album “True” by Avicii. I started listening to EDM music a lot at that time. I wanted to make this music myself, and then my best friend's brother installed FL studio on my computer when I was 13. That way I could practice making music myself. At that time the Dutch EDM scene exploded with Afrojack, Martin Garrix, Tiesto and many more. In 2014 I saw a livestream on youtube of Afrojack playing in the Ziggo Dome Stadium in the Netherlands. From that moment I knew I wanted to start playing as a dj too! So i went to a music shop the week after with my parents, and bought my first dj set.

Why did you want to become a DJ?

I started producing on my computer. At some point, I also wanted people to hear my music, so I started organizing my own parties in my village for teenagers!

Key moment/song/artist that was “the push” to make music a career?
Electric State
That was Avicii. When i heard his album True for the first time, i knew i also wanted to create this kind of music.

A tip for someone experiencing a creative block?
Electric State
Go outside for a few hours and get inspiration from nature for example. I do a lot of mountain biking but also tennis. I love being outside or taking a walk in the woods with my dog when it’s not flowing in the studio.

Is/Was your family supportive of your career in music?
Electric State
My parents have always supported me 100% and I have had 100% space to develop musically. They did want me to study alongside it, so I am managing both.
LAVERN
Do you work better in routine or chaos?
Electric State
I work better in routine! I like to get up on time, then some sports and then go to the studio. but often I'm also in the studio late into the night. I don't need that much sleep.
LAVERN
Any favorite touring food spots? - city specific?
Electric State
The first time I went to Paris for a photoshoot, we went to some restaurants with my team and it was great. The food there was amazing, I have a list of restaurants to try next time, can’t wait to go back !

In what order do you put articles of clothing on?

First pants, then shirt, then my hoodie and then the rest

Watermelon!

Strangest addiction?
Electric State
Nose spray, it’s super weird but yes, love to breathe through a clean nose.

What does being an artist mean to you?
Electric State
Express yourself by creating art and make people and yourself happy or at least move by it. I've been doing this since I was thirteen years old and it was really a hobby, later it became more serious, and I started to work more and more to get better. I love this journey.

The last time you cried tears of joy?
Electric State
When my song "Hold Me" went viral on social media! I was like, "Wow this is insane!!!"
It was probably a mix surprise and joy but definitely overwhelming.

Who inspired you - not an artist someone you personally know?
Electric State
I think my parents, because they always help me with everything. Whether it's music or anything else they always support me 100%.

Next step or goal?
Electric State
My next goal is to play gigs all over the world, and on the biggest mainstages! To hopefully make people happy with my music and share.
